Dr. Jena Wider

JENA WIDER

Staples Varsity Girls Tennis Head Coach, Jena Wider is an avid tennis and squash player, having won the doubles title at NYSPHSAA (NY States) in high school. Wider grew up in Setauket, NY and was a 2 sport Varsity athlete in Tennis (captain) and Lacrosse (captain) at Ward Melville High School. Recruited to two Division 3 schools for tennis, she opted to attend Princeton University and played Division 1 squash. Prior to Staples, Wider worked as a coach at Greens Farms Academy, Weston High School and Saint Ann’s in Brooklyn Heights. She continues to play tennis in her hometown Westport, CT. She has three children, two dogs and one very happy husband. 

Wider is also a women’s health doctor and has dedicated her professional career to empowering girls and women to take charge of their physical and mental health. She has appeared on The Today Show, CBS News, ABC News Nightline, CNN/Headline News, Fox News, Good Day NY, HuffPost Live. She sits on the advisory boards of Cosmopolitan magazine and Health magazine. Wider is the resident doctor on 99.9 FM, Just Jenny SiriusXM Stars and LOVELINE on iHeartRadio.

Wider is the author of four books, including The Savvy Woman PatientThe Doctor’s Complete College Girls’ Health Guide, The New Mom’s Survival Guide and Got Teens? The Doctor Moms’ Guide to Sexuality, Social Media and other Adolescent Realities.

Assistant Varsity Coach

Chris Kuhnle

Staples Varsity Girls Tennis Assistant Coach Chris Kuhnle is a two-time conference champion as well as a county champion while attending Shoreham-Wading River High School in New York. He played at the number one position throughout his entire high school career. His senior year of high school, he was named team captain and was the Section XI MVP as well as earning All-State. Throughout his time in school he earned six varsity letters. He went on to play Division 1 tennis at Penn State for four years and took on the role of volunteer assistant coach while pursuing a masters degree. Kuhnle found his passion for coaching over summer breaks at school where he trained many local players, one of whom would go on to be ranked #1 in the country. Prior to Staples, Kuhnle worked as a tennis pro at the Nantucket Yacht Club, Hillsboro Club, and Fairfield County Hunt Club.

Coming from a family of athletes, sports were always a part of his life. Kuhnle grew up playing soccer, tennis and wrestling. His mother Mihaela was on the Romanian Olympic Speed Skating team from 1980-1984 and his sister Alex played Division 1 soccer at William and Mary.
